St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church

Lake Mills

The roots run deep at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Mills.

Thousands of babies have been baptized, teens confirmed and young couples married in the beautiful stained-glass adorned building since its dedication in August of 1913.

In 2005 the congregation and students moved to a new facility on the south end of Lake Mills off of Highway 89.

The 1,800-member congregation and over 200 students were outgrowing the 421 W. Madison St. facilities.

In 2001 the congregation purchased 27 acres of the Untz farm just outside the city and began construction of phase one last summer.

The new building, located at 1530 S. Main St., off of Highway 89, is the first of a three-phase building plan and includes 12 classrooms, a gym, a concession stand, two large kitchens, administrative offices, a large library and a fellowship hall that will be temporarily used as the worship hall.

This first phase totals 45,000 square feet of space. After phases two and three are finished, which will include more classrooms and the actual church worship building, the entire complex will have 100,000 square feet compared to the present 35,000-square- foot facility.

The new church worship area, to be completed in phase two, is planned to have enough space to seat 700 to 1,000 people. The original church on Madison Street seats about 300.

St. Paul’s, Madison St, has been serving the Lake Mills area since 1895.  It owns and operates a grade school and is part of the federation of congregations that owns and operates Lakeside Lutheran High School.
