Courthouse records:
They were recorded all the way back to the early days of the county -
1850's probably. But, there was a fire
at the Dodge County Courthouse in 1877 and all of the records before then were
destroyed. This would include births,
deaths, marriages and land records. They
resumed recording them after the fire, so these are the earliest records
available. Church records are your best
source of early marriages, but they are not indexed or filed in a central
location. You have to contact the
individual churches!

Century Farms Article -
Jefferson County Daily Union
Clergyman,
Territorial Marriages
County Home (“Poor Farm”) and residents. The county poor
farm (or almshouse) was a fixture of many counties in the early days. These
tax-supported institutions were places where individuals who could not support
themselves could go. Generally residents were required to work if they were
able on the farm that was usually a part of the property (hence the name
"poor farm"). Some individuals might find themselves in temporary
dire circumstances and remain at the farm a short time. Others might stay
longer. Illness, injury, loss of job, death of parents, or a variety of other
circumstance may have been the reason. In some cases, a county or township
official might have had to request the person be admitted.

St.
Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1906-2006. Compiled by Rob Seifert. Edited and published by Ken Riedl
A new book, coinciding with the
centennial year of St. Mark’s Church of Richwood, consisting of a
pictorial listing of each pastor as well as a collection of images of the
church and its parishioners. The major
portion of the book consists of the baptismal, confirmation,
marriage and death records derived from the church ledgers and are reproduced
with the permission of the parish. Take a peak inside
