St. Bernard’s Catholic Church

Watertown

Watertown Daily Times, 03 13 1999

It has been the final resting place of a parish family for more than 150 years.  “It is the heritage of our church,” said the Rev. Thomas Marr of Watertown's St. Bernard s Catholic Church.  St. Bernard's Cemetery is a part of Watertown's heritage as well.  The 16-acre parcel of land is the final destination of hundreds of early immigrants, many from Ireland and Germany, who left their homelands seeking a better life.  The resting place to those who worked to build and maintain their church and a large portion of Watertown, the oldest grave dates to the mid-1840s.  Since then the inhabitants of the parish cemetery represent those who have been spiritually entrusted to the property through wars, epidemics and trauma, and entrust the location of their interment to their descendants.
